Steve Grove, the current CEO & Publisher of the Minnesota Star Tribune, the former leader of the State Department of Employment and Economic Development, and a Northfield High School graduate, is coming out with a new book at the end of June: How I Found Myself In The Midwest.
The book tells the story of his life from going from working at Google in Silicon Valley to moving back to the Midwest. “From making new friends and building a family to reconciling with his past and exploring his faith, Grove’s journey to find purpose by going local provides a roadmap for anyone looking to discover what gives meaning to their life. Along the way, Grove shares insights about a part of the country that many people ignore at their peril, and why he is optimistic about America’s future. How I Found Myself in the Midwest will move and inspire you, no matter where you choose to call home.”
In a conversation, KYMN had with Grove, he shared one of the takeaways he hoped readers had of the book:
“I think it’s that reinvention is possible anywhere. You know, whether it’s personal reinvention of your own career or job or outlook on life, or whether it’s reinventing our institutions or the things that we hold dear, you know, there is possibility in this community when people are willing to just work together and put our differences aside and do something big and bold. And I think you’ve seen that in Northfield time again, you’ve seen that in Minnesota’s history time and again.” – Steve Grove on his new book How I Found Myself in the Midwest (KYMN News File)
Grove will be hosting an event with Content Bookstore and the Grand Events Center on Wednesday, June 25th, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. The event includes an opportunity for Grove to share his thoughts and a moderated discussion. Doors open at 6:15pm for music by Craig Wasner. Drinks and Food will be available from The Grand.
The event is free, but attendees should RSVP in advance. You can do so by going to Contentbookstore.com and then click the events tab.
Grove shared that Northfield is still a special place to him and that is why he returned home:
“I feel really lucky to have come from Northfield. I have, you know, since left and lived in a lot of places across the country and in the world. But I always felt lucky to have Northfield as a home, and I always just feel a sigh of relief when I walk down Division.” – Steve Grove on his new book, How I Found Myself in the Midwest (KYMN News File)
How I Found Myself In The Midwest come out on June 24th, 2025. You can preorder a copy of the book here.
