Northfield Police & Northfield Public Broadcasting Join Social Media

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

Two of the city of Northfield’s departments recently joined social media, the Police Department and Northfield Public Broadcasting (NPB). Previously, both departments utilized the city’s main social media account. Police Chief Jeff Schroepfer stated that he hoped the new Facebook page would allow for regular communication with residents interested in police department updates.

Sam Temple with NPB stated that expanding to Facebook and Instagram allowed for the sharing of different content more easily:

“Want to have the community reflected in the programming? So that’s the goal with the social media especially, is to really bolster the public side of the Northfield Public Broadcasting.” – Sam Temple, Station Manager of Northfield Public Broadcasting, KYMN News Interview

Temple noted that social media provides an opportunity to share shorter videos and highlights of the different programs on NPB and promote the longer-form content they have:

“You know, our goal isn’t to be viral, right? Our goal isn’t to be the best, most popular Facebook page or Instagram page, right? It’s a public service. We want to keep people informed.” – Sam Temple, Station Manager of Northfield Public Broadcasting, KYMN News Interview

The city’s current Facebook and Instagram pages will continue to be used for posting regular community updates. The city’s YouTube page has been renamed to Northfield Public Broadcasting.

You can find the police department on Facebook by searching: Northfield Police Department, MN or https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61576956692066 And you can find NPB on Facebook by searching Northfield Public Broadcasting or https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61577866198774, and on Instagram at Northfield Public Broadcasting.
