The Northfield Arts Guild is currently hosting an interactive exhibit on mental health. “U are the Universe (Eres el Universo),” by local artist Rocky Casillas Aguirre, has had work featured in many groups, but this was their first solo exhibit. In a conversation, he shared several stories about the importance of mental health to him and why that was the inspiration for the exhibit:
“is really to create a safe space to talk about mental health. I don’t think that we have enough safe spaces for us to be learning and sharing about things like mental health. a lot of the pieces are based on personal experience with anxiety and panic. “ – Rocky Casillas Aguirre, Local Artist with work on display in the Northfield Arts Guild, KYMN News Interview
Rocky noted that this exhibit is meant to be immersive, three-dimensional, and with items that people could touch and hold.
“So, like the medicine cabinet, that’s one of my favorite pieces. And there’s been a lot of good feedback on it from folks who came to the open house and who have been leaving comments. I really like that piece in particular because it’s symbolic and in many ways tries to destigmatize mental health.” – Rocky Casillas Aguirre, Local Artist with work on display in the Northfield Arts Guild, KYMN News Interview

The exhibit is free to attend and is located at the downtown location of the Northfield Arts Guild, at 304 Division Street. The Guild is open Tuesday through Friday, Noon to 5 pm, and Saturday, 11 am to 4 pm.
U are the Universe is set to be in the Guild’s main gallery until July 26th.
