The Riverwalk Market Fair (RMF) is hosting a fundraiser tomorrow night to support its Farm to Families program. The program involves the market purchasing any remaining fresh foods at the end of the Saturday fair and donating them to the Community Action Center’s (CAC) food shelf.

Fair Manager Derek Meyers stated that the program had previously been paid for via a federal program that had recently been cut, and now the market was looking to try to fundraise the difference.

“But we know the need is ongoing, especially with all these other programs being cut. The food shelves in our town are facing some dire circumstances, and this is a small way we can help alleviate that need. So we’re doing what we can to raise money for. Next year as well, and whatever gaps we might have for this year.”– Derek Meyers, Riverwalk Market Fair Manager, on KYMN’s Something I Have Always Wondered About

Meyers noted that after one of the recent fairs, he brought nearly 300 pounds of fresh produce to the CAC. He estimated that in 2024, the program provided over 5000 pounds of fresh food and $14,850 to support local farmers.

Betsy Wentz, a local farmer and board member of Riverwalk, also stated that the program helps benefit farmers:

“But these food access programs, in addition to feeding people, also really benefit our farmers. You know, being able to be reimbursed for SNAP purchases for WIC purchases, even the produce power produce club tokens, they add additional funding for our farmers.” – Betsy Wentz, Riverwalk Fair Board Member, on KYMN’s Something I Have Always Wondered About

The fundraiser to support the Farm to Families program starts tomorrow evening at 6:30pm to 9pm at Imminent Brewing. The fundraiser will include silent auction prizes, live music by Ray and Curt, as well as desserts from RMF vendors.
