Northfield Public Broadcasting looks for community submissions, looks to make content more community-based

By Maya Betti, KYMN News Intern

Northfield Public Broadcasting is now turning its focus to something a little more interactive.

The station, which has operated for nearly six years, previously shared content through the City of Northfield’s social media channels. Now, NPB has launched its own dedicated Facebook and Instagram pages, in addition to its existing YouTube channel.

Station Manager Sam Temple says the move is about giving the public a stronger voice, using the new medium to allow the community to share its stories.

“One thing that we’re looking forward to highlighting on our social media page, is the community submissions that we get. Those can be from our partner organizations like Faribault community television or the community television network. Those could be submissions from the community those could be church programs we have Bethel and St John’s are are two regular submissions that we get in church programs. But you know, NPB is also a public service,” – Sam Temple, Station Manager of NPB, KYMN News Interview

Temple says the station will continue to cover city business as usual, including board meetings, commissions, and public events. But now, those stories can sit alongside videos made by the people who live in town.

“One thing we look forward to highlighting is not just the programs that we’re producing internally, library programs, public service announcements, ribbon cuttings, like we just had last week with the transit hub programs like that, but also where the community is really buying into NPB,” – Sam Temple, Station Manager of NPB, KYMN News Interview

The idea is simple: give Northfield residents a platform to share their own videos. Whether that’s an art project, a music performance, or even footage from a local event, Temple says anyone can contribute, and submissions don’t need to be professional-quality.

“We don’t want it to just be from organizations that that have an official name under the Secretary of State’s website. We want it to be everyday people that are also submitting their programs and also reflecting the community. That’s what we really come back to,” – Sam Temple, Station Manager of NPB, KYMN News Interview

You can follow Northfield Public Broadcasting on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube at their handle @northfieldpublicbroadcasting. You can also visit the city’s website to learn how to submit a video.
