Chamber of Commerce Works To Promote A Wide Variety of Tourism

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

A Northfield tradition is coming up this week on Thursday, Crazy Days. The day of business deals around town is one of the Northfield Chamber of Commerce’s regular events among a busy lineup of events each year, which includes items such as Winter Walk, the Fall Gala, Girls Nite Out, and the Community Market Fair. Rachel Trnka is the Chamber’s Director of Engagement:

“Let’s Just Say Before An Event Ends Were Pretty Much Already Planning the next event.” – Rachel Trnka, Northfield Chamber’s Director of Engagement on KYMN’s Something I Have Always Wondered About

Chamber President Jane Bartho noted that each event is meant to serve different community groups.

“Some are retail-focused. Some are community-focused, some are business-focused, some are business-to-business, and some are business-to-community. So there’s a variety of purpose behind them.” – Jane Bartho, President of the Northfield Chamber, on Something I Have Always Wondered About

Bartho noted that one focus of the Chamber and its affiliate, the Convention & Visitors Bureau, is on tourism and, in particular, getting tourists to stay the night:

“When it comes to tourism, our main focus is to get folks to stay overnight. So if people are going to come to crazy days, are they going to stay overnight? if people come to winter walk on a Thursday night, are they going to stay overnight? We tend to see more people staying overnight for a winter walk event than a crazy day’s event.”  – Jane Bartho, President of the Northfield Chamber, on Something I Have Always Wondered About

She noted that a tourism metric could help determine if the event is focused more on folks in Northfield or outside of town.
