It’s Crazy Days Today! Here’s all the information you need to know

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

Today is Crazy Days, the annual Northfield tradition, part celebration and part community-wide event for business sales. Running from 7am to 7pm, the day consists of sales across Northfield, some of which are some pretty remarkable deals. Jane Bartho is the president of the Northfield Chamber of Commerce:

“Where retailers get the opportunity to clear their shelves and get ready for winter clothes, hate to say that too loudly, but yeah, it’s a summer clearance and that’s where it all started. Deep discounts, crazy deals.” – Jane Bartho, President of the Northfield Chamber of Commerce, KYMN News Interview

The main focus of the event is in downtown, where Division Street will be shut down and many stores will move out into the streets.

“Many of these stores bring their inventory out throughout the morning. You know, as the racks clear and the shelves clear, they’ll bring more and more and more out. Some stores close the day before just to get ready for crazy days.” – Jane Bartho, President of the Northfield Chamber of Commerce, KYMN News Interview

Bartho also stated that many businesses from across the community come to Division Street to sell their goods and items, noting that each Chamber member is invited downtown for free. Furthermore, several of the booths downtown are interactive and fun:

“Like the school bus comes down, Laurie brings that brand new school bus and kids can paint on, well, adults, too. Anybody can paint on that bus all day, so she always sets up in front of Neuger, and then the school district sets up right next to them with the booth.” – Jane Bartho, President of the Northfield Chamber of Commerce, KYMN News Interview

Another example was cereal from Post:

“Post comes down, they’ve got a double wide on Bridge Square, and they’ve got the bags of cereal boxes and boxes. And they always bring a truck midday to restock their cereal.” – Jane Bartho, President of the Northfield Chamber of Commerce, KYMN News Interview

Or from Full Potential Therapies:

“Full potential therapies come and they always put an obstacle course of games on the street for kids to play.” – Jane Bartho, President of the Northfield Chamber of Commerce, KYMN News Interview

However, the event is community-wide with deals happening across Northfield. Bartho cited the example of Knects Nursery, where it was impractical for the group to move their inventory to downtown. Other deals are available across the community, including George’s Pizza, Tractor Supply, and the Junk Truck. Will have the full list of events on our website in today’s news.

You can find different pictures and information about Crazy Days on the Chamber of Commerce’s social media or on our social media, where we will be making regular posts throughout the day.

Parking Information:

With Crazy Days today, there are a few important logistics notes, mainly parking. Division Street will be closed from 6th Street (Family Fare) to the Public Library (2nd Street). For parking, try the public parking lots at Water Street and 5th & Washington or the Street Parking along Washington Street. Also, at the Riverside Mall Parking lot, there will be many deals.

Map of the Crazy Days Events

Listen to a conversation KYMN had with Jane Bartho about the events happening today:

Chamber’s Focus

Among the deals offered, the Chamber is providing half of the memberships for businesses looking to join. A standard yearly membership with the Chamber is $300. Bartho also stated that this event is not meant as a fundraiser for the Chamber but instead a time to support the business community:

“But otherwise, we do the advertising at no cost. We do the staff work at no cost just to, and we advertise outside of Northfield to bring people to Northfield.” – Jane Bartho, President of the Northfield Chamber of Commerce, KYMN News Interview

Bartho said that while she has many favorite parts of Crazy Day’s, she tries to visit everything since there is such a wide variety of fun and crazy things to do.

Crazy Days is today across Northfield and Dundas from 7am to 7pm.
