The Northfield City Council meets tonight for a regular meeting. The first item on the agenda will be the annual presentation by the Northfield History Center. The council will have two main items on the agenda to consider.
Riverside Park Improvements:
First, the council will consider approving the Riverside Park Playground Improvement Plan. The changes would renovate the playground equipment near 7th Street to be a “nature-based design” and would improve accessibility issues in the park. Also in the plan would be on the other end of the park, by the picnic shelter and the second playground. The new design would focus on the picnic shelter, refreshing the space and improving the bathrooms. Multiple options of different building and playground designs will be presented, and the council will decide which direction to go with the project.

Residential Garbage Contract:
The other major item on the agenda is beginning the discussion regarding the city’s residential trash contract. Currently, the city contracts with DSI, which is set to expire at the end of the year. The discussion is only meant as a time for the council to share their priorities with any contract going forward. Afterwards, city staff will send out Requests for Proposals, and approving the contract will be later this fall.

Other Items on the Agenda:
Other items on the agenda include approving Mikayla Schmidt, the current City Planner, to be the Interim Community Development Director. Current Community Development Director Jake Reilly is set to depart on September 11th. The council will then also review an update to their meeting rules mainly related to remote participation by elected and appointed officials.

Tonight’s meeting takes place at 6pm in the Council Chambers of the Northfield City Hall.
