New Group of Galleries Open at the Paradise Center for the Arts

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

A new group of galleries at the Paradise Center for the Arts in Faribault opened last week. The four unique exhibitions celebrate creativity across generations, from emerging high school artists and seasoned educators to lifelong visionaries and environmental artisans. The work on display includes paintings, stained glass, pottery, zentangles, and a steel sculpture.

Will have additional information about each artist and display on our website in today’s news, as well as pictures of some of their work. The current group of artists will be on display until September 27th. The Paradise is open Sundays – Thursdays from 4 pm to 10 pm and Fridays and Saturdays from 4 pm to 11 pm. Check out their website https://www.paradisecenterforthearts.org/ for a list of different events that they have happening each weekend.

Patricia Lockie Johnson – The Backwaters

At 83, Morristown artist Patricia Lockie Johnson presents her first-ever exhibition—a powerful debut decades in the making. Influenced by the vibrant, underrecognized 1960s Winona art scene, Johnson’s work captures the Mississippi River backwaters, changing seasons, and portraits of the people who shaped her life. Her paintings, filled with emotion and regional history, invite viewers into a deeply personal journey of artistic devotion and quiet perseverance.

Karl Friedrich
Steel sculptor Karl Friedrich creates bold, industrial works forged through physical engagement with his medium. “I was up in the air on a ladder, bending and welding steel—sparks flying, singeing my cap. I love this,” he shares. His pieces reflect raw energy, balance, and craftsmanship born from a love of the process.

Pat Dunn-Walker
Mixed media artist Pat Dunn-Walker explores the emotional and physical baggage we carry—grief, dreams, hope—and contrasts it with grounded, regenerative themes found in nature. Working in acrylic and collage, she incorporates found paper from her travels into her semi-abstract compositions, each telling layered stories of transformation and place.

Waseca High School AP Studio Arts Students

This exciting student exhibition features work from the 2024–2025 Waseca High School AP Studio Arts program, led by instructor Jen Popp. Students submitted portfolios in 2-D and 3-D, focusing on materials, techniques, and personal inquiry. Their pieces demonstrate growth, vision, and thoughtful exploration across a variety of media.

Featured Students:
Melanie Krueger-Eineke, Gabe Emery, Sophia Hillsman, Jaya Kunkel, Esme Pearch, D’Andra Schultz, Arianna Theobald
