The Defeat of Jesse James Days Horseshoe Hunt is in its second day and for its second year in a row, the hunt’s clues are paying tribute to one of the celebration’s longtime volunteers. Last year, the hunt paid tribute to Wayne Eddy, who had passed away a few weeks prior to the celebration. This year, the hunt honors Chip DeMann, who passed away shortly after last year’s celebration. The Co-Chair of the Hunt, Tim Freeland, described the work that DeMann had done with the celebration:
“And Chip, back in 1973-74 put together the modern-day reenactor gang as we know it. I could go over the history of the Rainbow Saddle Club from St. Paul that did it up to that point, and that falling apart, which is a whole other topic. But back in ’73, when Chip said, Hey, Wayne Eddy, I need you to step in and play Frank James, and he pulled together mostly DeManns.” – Tim Freeland, Co-Chair of the DJJD Horseshoe Hunt, on KYMN In The Morning
Listen to the News:

Freeland stated that participants in the hunt would not have to know the history of Chip DeMann to find the horseshoe, rather:
“The story of Chip is just the vehicle in which we are delivering the hints. And that’s something where veteran hunters know. You need to look within each of the clues. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t Chip-related, you know, that if you know that, it might help.”– Tim Freeland, Co-Chair of the DJJD Horseshoe Hunt, on KYMN In The Morning
The horseshoe hunt is in its second day and ends on Sunday. The grand prize for those with a registered button is $2,000. However, anyone can participate and still receive the prize of $1,000.
