Today is the Day: the start of the Defeat of Jesse James Days 2025, which kicks off with the memorial service for Joseph Lee Heywood at noon in the Northfield Cemetery. This evening, the Heywood banquet will recognize the 2025 Recipient of the Joseph Lee Heywood Distinguished Service Award, CC Linstroth, for her decades of service to the Northfield community.
KYMN listeners will know CC because of her monthly on-air conversation about the work of Age Friendly Northfield. However, her work continues far beyond that, serving on the Friends of Downtown board, the city’s Charter Commission, and previously working on the Hospital Board and Foundation, Hope Center Board, the Mill Towns Trail Joint Powers Board, and the League of Women Voters. Of those she cited the importance that the League of Women Voters had on much of her life:
Hear KYMN’s full conversation with CC
“I think the thing that really started me on a lot of this was the League of Women Voters. At that time, I was a young mother in Northfield, and I was also teaching, but the meetings were held on Saturdays. And so that made it very easy for me to go. But I learned about slow and steady, that democracy is slow, and it can be messy. But the goal is to move the needle, to keep your eye on the prize, and follow the process.” – CC Linstroth, 2025 Recipient of the Joseph Lee Heywood Distinguished Service Award, KYMN News Interview
Additionally, CC was active in city government, serving as a City Council member and Interim City Administrator. Combined with her experience as a teacher, she shared how that influenced who she was:
“I want to say every penny that I have earned in my career, whether it was through the city or public education, has been through the generosity of taxpayers. I am a product of taxes. And I wanted to be worthy of that, to be honest, to see what I could do.” – CC Linstroth, 2025 Recipient of the Joseph Lee Heywood Distinguished Service Award, KYMN News Interview
CC will be honored tonight at the Heywood Banquet at the Northfield Ballroom. Doors open at 5pm and the event starts at 6:30pm.
With the celebration ahead, CC stated that she was looking forward to Thursday evening when everyone returns to town:
“And coming down to Townie Night is always so heartwarming because you see people that you haven’t seen in a long time. And of course, there’s all the junk food, which is a very nice addition to the evening.” – CC Linstroth, 2025 Recipient of the Joseph Lee Heywood Distinguished Service Award, KYMN News Interview
Congratulations to CC on this incredibly well-deserved award.
