Among the many fun events of the Defeat of Jesse James Days, the History Center is also offering several programs and events to learn about the history of the celebration. Throughout the celebration, the museum will be open, located in the original First National Bank where the raid occurred in 1876.
On the Saturday of the celebration, four different seminars will be hosted in the History Center’s Archives:
- The Early Years of the Gang at 10am
- A Chase to the Death: The James Younger Gang Escapes From Northfield at 12 pm,
- Myths, Lies, and Misconceptions of the James Younger Gang at 2 pm,
- The Guns of the Northfield Raid 4pm

Mark Thornton, the History Center’s Outreach Coordinator, talked about the presenter of the different seminars: Russ Swanson
“Last year Earl Weinmann was our primary presenter we wanted to give him a little bit of a break so we found somebody else guy by the name of Russ Swanson he has just written a book about the Escape of Jesse James he’s from Canton South Dakota he learned that many of his ancestors might have been involved in the the Posse if you will to catch the the gang after the fact so he started digging and digging and digging and he’s doing a ton of work.” – Mark Thornton, History Center Outreach Coordinator on KYMN In The Morning
Each seminar lasts about 90 minutes and costs $10. Admission is paid at the door.
