Raider Boys Soccer Team Has a Strong Start To First Half of the Season – Raider Highlights

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

Welcome back to this week’s edition of the Raider Sports Highlight, where we take a look at one of the teams or players and what they are up to this season.

With about half of the season done, the Raider Boys Soccer team has had a strong performance so far, winning four games, tying 3, and losing only one game. Coach Cale Steinhoff says that he has been fortunate to have worked with several players for many years now on the varsity team, and that their success comes down to a shared goal of the team:

“And we’ve always preached quality before results. So we’ll look at how we’re playing, we’ll look at how we’re playing together before we look at the scoreboard. That said, we’ve been happy with our results so far this year.” – Cale Steinhoff, Coach of the Raider Boys Soccer Team on KYMN’s Raider Wrap

Listen to the News:

Steinhoff noted that the team is an experienced one, with nearly half of the team being seniors who have helped provide mentorship opportunities to the younger team members. With the majority of the team seniors, Steinhoff has begun work to build up and prepare the younger players:

“Great Leadership from the Senior class, But we also have juniors who are playing significant minutes and are great leaders on the team. We have several sophomores on our varsity team who are playing great. And then we have players all throughout the program. We’re very proud of our JV and the JV team, especially is filled with promising players.” – Cale Steinhoff, Coach of the Raider Boys Soccer Team on KYMN’s Raider Wrap

With just about half of the season left, Steinhoff said that much can still change, but that they were aiming to contend at the conference level. Coming up, the team has games against Rochester John Marshall (9/18), Albert Lea (9/25), Kasson-Mantorville (9/27), Mankato West (9/30), Owatonna (10/2), and ending the season with Mahtomedi (10/4).

“That was one of the goals we set for ourselves this year is we wanted to contend for the conference. We wanted to be the team or one of the teams that other teams, other schools are looking out for in their schedule and circling that game against Northfield.” – Cale Steinhoff, Coach of the Raider Boys Soccer Team on KYMN’s Raider Wrap

With the schedule ahead for the rest of the season, Steinhoff described every game as an important one, with all but one team being a conference or section team. However, according to the latest Minnesota Coaches Association poll, Northfield ranked 10th in Section 2A, something Steinhoff said was a strong showing for the team.
