Studio ARTour Takes Place Across Northfield, Dundas, and Faribault This Weekend; Meet the Artists in their Workspace

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

This weekend, art lovers across South Central Minnesota will have the rare opportunity to step inside the creative spaces of more than two dozen local artists during the 2025 Studio ARTour, running Friday through Sunday.

The tour invites you to come out and see where and how they work!  The 2025 tour features 15 locations and 31 artists around Northfield, Dundas, and Faribault. Most studios showcase several artists working in different media. The artists are glad to answer questions and provide information about the art, and many of the studios will have demonstrations. Visitors are invited to explore working studios, meet the artists, and learn about their techniques in an intimate, hands-on setting.

Studios will be open on Friday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. and throughout the weekend from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The event is free and family-friendly.

Listen to the News:

KYMN’s Paula Granquist had an opportunity to talk with some of the artists in the tour. Here’s David Peterson:

“I am a woodturner which means I take pieces of wood and I put them on a lathe and was handheld gouges and chisels and scrapers I make bowls and platters and candle holders and a variety of things and so I get to work with a natural medium.” – David Peterson, Artist in the Studio ARTour on KYMN’s ArtZany

And here’s painter Kathy Miller:

“So I do watercolor basically and it’s nature-inspired watercolor is what I call it and all things nature is what it’s about and those are the things that speak to me and that’s where I get all of my inspiration.” Kathy Miller, Artist in the Studio ARTour on KYMN’s ArtZany

And finally, here’s textile artist, Kathy Weed:

“I use Fabric and collage technique and then the final I’m after I’m piecing it all together then I do free motion quilting to hold it in place and so it’s a type of quilting but I use nature as my inspiration all over wherever you look there’s flowers trees birds and they just really inspire me.” – Kathy Weed, Artist in the Studio ARTour on KYMN’s ArtZany

Organizers say the tour is designed to foster deeper connections between artists and the community, while celebrating the region’s rich creative culture. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the

Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from

the Arts and Cultural Heritage fund.
