The Mill Towns Race Series Returns to the Northfield Area on Sunday, October 12

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

The Mill Town Race Series is set to return to Northfield and Dundas this weekend, on Sunday, October 12th, with a field of nearly 200 runners. The event is hosted by Your Pace or Mine Running Club and benefits Project Purple, a nonprofit that funds pancreatic cancer research and patient financial aid. The event is presented by Rebound Partners and powered by Post Consumer Brands.

The event includes chip-timed 10K, half-marathon, and marathon distances run along the Mill Towns State Trail from Memorial Park in Dundas into Northfield on the east side of the river and returns to Dundas on the west side of the river. The half-marathon and marathon are certified by the USATF (USATF Certification MN24023MAB), which means the marathon can be run to qualify for the Boston Marathon. The field will be capped at 200 total runners, and only a few spots remain as of Oct. 1.

Pancreatic cancer has a five-year survival rate of 13% and is the second deadliest form of cancer in Minnesota, according to the American Cancer Society. University of Minnesota Medical Professor Dr. Edward Greeno says they are seeing some positive results.

“We’ve made a lot of progress over the decades and are getting better at curing the people who are curable. Unfortunately, that’s a small fraction of people. We’ve improved that by getting better at the surgeries safely and by adding chemotherapy after the surgery so that we improve the cure rates of the surgery.” – Dr. Edward Greeno, University of Minnesota Medical Professor, Audio Courtesy of the Minnesota News Network

Your Pace or Mine Running Club was founded as a meet-up group in Elko New Market in 2006. It has since become a member club of the Road Runners Club of America and an affiliate nonprofit with members from Prior Lake to Faribault. Your Pace or Mine first hosted the Mill Towns Race Series in 2020, when all major races were canceled due to the pandemic.
