Northfield High School Sees Improvements in Student Attendance

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

Attendance rates at the Northfield High School over the last three school years.

With the start of the school year, the various school buildings in Northfield are releasing reports highlighting the successes from last year and focus areas for the upcoming year. Today, we’re focusing on the High School’s report.

One highlight was the improvement in attendance results. In the 2022-2023 School Year, 62% of students had regular attendance, compared to 80% this past school year. The improvements meant that approximately 125 students were no longer chronically absent. High School Principal Chris Dibble cited the intervention work that the school implemented, pairing students with a mentor:

“But usually, the first hour teacher is going to build that relationship. I think value in relationships.” – Chris Dibble, Principal of the Northfield High School at the 9/22/2025 School Board Meeting

Listen to the News:

Going into this school year, Dibble said they will continue to focus on attendance, aiming to have 90% of the school regularly attending. Additionally, they are also aiming to have 80% of students proficient in Priority Standards.

“We’ve got to make sure that our classes are well structured so the learning that takes place is also reflected in those national expectations of AP and ACT classes. More hands-on learning to energize the student engagement and to make our students more successful.” – Chris Dibble, Principal of the Northfield High School at the 9/22/2025 School Board Meeting

However, Dibble said that they also wanted to share positive news about each student and to celebrate their work:

“Very often, a parent only gets those calls that are, hey, I’m missing this, missing that. We want to make sure we’re celebrating everything those students do each and every day.” – Chris Dibble, Principal of the Northfield High School at the 9/22/2025 School Board Meeting
