A group of students in Northfield is leading an effort to create a new mascot for the Raiders. For the last 5 years, the team has only had the capital N as their logo, along with the Maroon and Gold Colors. High School Teacher and advisor to the student group, Leah Sand, said that they are not looking to change the team name or school colors, rather:
“We’re going to keep the N, and we’re still going to be the Raiders, but we want an image that can represent Northfield High School. So, like you know, the U of M has the “M” and Goldy Gopher, we want our N and something else.” – Leah Sand, Northfield High School Teacher, KYMN News Interview
Activities Director John Mahal said that they were excited for the addition to the team’s design:
Listen to the News:
“The N has been obviously a very long-standing brand, if you will, in town here and in the community. So to be able to add to it, I think will really enhance what we do and bring us a really new kind of fresh look for all of our activities.” – John Mahal, Northfield Activities Director, KYMN News Interview
As part of the process for creating a new mascot, artwork submissions are open until Friday. Any community member, students, teachers, alumni, parents, grandparents, or anyone else can submit a design. The group established a few guidelines for the new mascot, including that the image is free of violence, racism, or harassment, represents all, contains the school’s colors, is unique to Northfield, and is not similar to the other Big 9 Schools. Lastly, the image can be transferred to sports apparel.
After collecting designs, the group of students will then edit and finalize designs to present them to the school board in the Winter.
You can find the artwork submission form here.
