The 2024 Holiday Displays in the windows at Hideaway.

Halloween is next week, and the Holidays are set to be here sooner than we know it. To help businesses get ready for the season, the Friends of Downtown Northfield are once again hosting a round of Merry Microgrants. The grants are intended to help supplement some of the costs associated with holiday decoration displays for downtown storefronts. President of Friends of Downtown, Josh Zimmerman, said that it’s part of the organization’s efforts to help make Downtown ready for the holidays, Small Business Saturday, and Winter Walk.

“Like most of these store owners are planning for this like now or even in July. So we want just to be part of that and help them where they need, just to make it a little bit easier and really accentuate the downtown during those holiday months.” – Josh Zimmerman, President of the Friends of Downtown Northfield, on KYMN In The Morning

Ten microgrants will be awarded, giving up to $150 each in reimbursement for decorating supplies. To be eligible, businesses must be located in the C1 Zoning District (Downtown) and have a public-facing storefront. Preference will be given to businesses participating in Winter Walk.

The deadline to apply is October 29th, with awards being announced on November 3rd. The applications consist of a few short questions.

Also during Winter Walk, businesses compete in a Holiday Window Display Contest.

“Really try to have a, take the competition of the store displays, and maybe bring some judges together to have some awards. that are given by judges, and some awards that are given by community voting.” – Josh Zimmerman, President of the Friends of Downtown Northfield, on KYMN In The Morning

A panel of Judges from the Friends and Chamber will review the windows and announce the winner on the Monday before Winter Walk. There will also be a community choice or fan favorite award during the winter walk as well.
