The community is welcome to attend an afternoon of cultural exchange and community unity at Bridging Communities: A Celebration of Somali Culture on Saturday, November 8, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Northfield Public Library. This free, family-friendly event celebrates the rich Somali traditions of storytelling, music, and dancing while building connections across Rice County.
Attendees can enjoy interactive dance workshops led by the Somali Museum of Minnesota Dance Troupe, a performance by the Faribault Middle School Choir, and a participatory Somali sing-along. Activities for all ages include henna art, face painting, bilingual Somali storytelling, a scavenger hunt with prizes, and more.

“Events like this help us celebrate the diversity and strength of our community by providing an opportunity to learn from one another, share joy, and build meaningful connections,” says Angelica Linder, the library’s outreach services manager.

The celebration is hosted by the Northfield Public Library in collaboration with Somali community partners and students, faculty, and staff from St. Olaf and Carleton College.
