The deadline to register for the Northfield Rotary Club’s Turkey Trot and receive this year’s t-shirt is today. The annual Thanksgiving Day chip-timed 5K run or walk starts at the Weitz Center for Creativity and weaves through the neighborhoods on the Northeast side of town. The annual celebration draws hundreds of community members together this year for its 25th. Scott Richardson shared the story of how it started and grew to be a community staple in Northfield:
“And so it started very modestly. The first t-shirt image was made in his kitchen. They baked it in the oven and they just kind of circulated the invitation among their running friends, and they ended up with about 100 people at the golf course and had this thing.”- Scott Richardson of the Northfield Rotary Club on KYMN in the Morning

The event is the Rotary Club’s biggest fundraiser, helping support the youth exchange program and polio eradication. The cost of the race is $30. Those who register online by the end of today are guaranteed an official long-sleeve Turkey Trot T-shirt. Runners and walkers can sign up after that online or in-person at the Weitz Center on the day of the race, beginning at 8 a.m
