With the holiday season quickly approaching, the community volunteers are rallying to help provide the best holiday experience for children in the area. In Rice County, two programs help provide gifts to kids this season: the CAC’s Operation Joy for those inside the Northfield School District, and then Toys for Tots for the rest of Rice County.
Founded in 1947, Toys for Tots is a program of the Marine Corps Reserve that works nationwide to provide toys to thousands of children each year.

The Faribault distribution site last year gave away 1,973 and helped support 841 different kids. Qualification to apply for the Toys for Tots program, families must live in Rice County and 1) be on assistance from Rice County Social Services; 2) have a child enrolled in the Three Rivers Head Start Program; or 3) be on the WIC Program. Children ages 6 months to 14 years qualify.
Applications for those in need close on Sunday, November 30th. Distribution will be at the Faribault Eagles on December 16th and 17th. Toys for Tots is also seeking donations of new toys; see the list of drop-off locations here. They will also accept monetary donations online, with 97% of each donation going back to supporting gifts for kids.
