The 25th Annual Northfield Rotary Club Turkey Trot happens tomorrow morning. The Thanksgiving Tradition is a chip-timed 5K run or walk through one of Northfield’s most scenic neighborhoods, starting and ending at the Weitz Center for Creativity. The race gets underway starting at 9am.
To date 1,100 people have registered for the event and you have the option to register online in advance today or register in person at the event starting at 8am. For those who registered in advance and are set to get a t-shirt you can pick them up this evening between 6pm – 7pm at the Weitz Center.
Listen to the News:
The turkey trot gives people an opportunity to express their gratitude by running or walking for a good cause. Funds raised at the Turkey Trot support Rotary’s ongoing work with its youth exchange program and polio eradication. They also contribute to local and international service projects the club initiates.
One participant interviewed by the Rotary Club, Jim, who has participated in each year’s trot, said why he continues to participate:
“It’s mostly about being thankful, I am thankful I can still run the Turkey Trot, I’m thankful my family can be a part of, and I am thankful that the community comes out, it’s a community event.” – Interview by the Rotary Club
The cost of the race is $30. Runners and walkers are encouraged to bring their dogs to the event. Kids in strollers are welcome to ride along with their parents.
And new this year for kids 12 and under, the Drumstick Dash! A free “fun run” of 400 meters for kids five and under and a mile run for kids 6 – 12. Participants must report to the Weitz Center Thanksgiving morning to sign a waiver and then gather at the corner of Third and Winona at 8:20 a.m. for announcements and an 8:30 a.m. start. The goal of the Drumstick Dash is to give kids a chance to run and get a taste of the Turkey Trot.
