With 25% of her first term done, Northfield Mayor Erica Zweifel is looking back on 2025 and the busy year at City Hall.  Among the topics considered by the City Council this year are: the Water Treatment Plant; approval and groundbreaking for a new Ice Arena; a new Comprehensive Plan (20-year plan) and a new Strategic Plan (3-year plan); bike lanes on Spring Creek Road; and a particularly challenging budget season.

Zwiefel said that this was all possible because of a council that was willing to work together on complex issues:

“Just gratitude for the counselors for coming prepared and coming, getting to that place of respect for one another and working, like I said, working together and figuring out our path forward as a community.” – Erica Zweifel, Northfield Mayor on KYMN In The Morning

This year marked Zweifel’s 13th year in public service, beginning as a board member of the City’s Environmental Quality Commission and later serving on the City Council. She said that the move to Mayor is a unique one where she has worked to try and build consensus:

“Thinking about what I can bring to that meeting to bring forward things that I’ve heard from other councilors, consensus that I’ve heard to try to set us on a path forward, set us on that consensus path together. So I’ve been really working hard on my facilitation work as the mayor.” – Erica Zweifel, Northfield Mayor on KYMN In The Morning

She also noted that, as Mayor, she has been able to connect more with the community, meeting with various organizations for listening sessions and Q&A Sessions.
