It was a busy year for the Northfield School District. The year began with the start of design work for the High School Reimagine project, a long process that included $6 million in budget reductions in the spring, a new High School principal, and the day-to-day operations of the school district. Superintendent Dr. Matt Hillmann says it was a year of impact and to remember:
“2025 was certainly a year where we had significant highs and significant lows… You think about all the things that we’ve already talked about, the facilities, the ice arena, the budget adjustments, the fiscal stewardship that we’ve demonstrated, a 7th consecutive year of a clean audit here at the end of the year.” – Dr. Matt Hillmann, Superintendent of Schools, KYMN News Interview

Hillmann also took the opportunity to thank all of the students, parents and families, teachers, staff, and community for supporting the school district in their own way this year. In particular, he noted the work of former School Board member Noel Stratmoe,n who passed away in November:
“We can’t talk about 2025 without discussing the real sorrow that we all feel with the passing of Noel Stratman, right? A long time, you know, 44 years on the school board. And of course, his term ended at the end of last year. But the contributions that he made to the community, the legacy that he has, you can’t think about 2025 without thinking about Noel and all the other people who have come and gone, right, this year.” – Dr. Matt Hillmann, Superintendent of Schools, KYMN News Interview
2026 is set to continue a busy year for the school district, with the High School Reimage project ending the design phase, discussions about the Middle School schedule, and a discussion about adjusting the school’s start times.
