Township filing periods begin December 30

Rice and Dakota Counties are reminding the rural communities that the filing period for seats on the various county townships’ Boards of Supervisors will open on Tuesday, December 30th, one week from today, and will run through Tuesday, Jan. 13

Candidates must file with the town clerk. Contact the town clerk to learn when and where they are accepting affidavits of candidacy. All filing offices are open from 1-5 p.m. on the last day of filing, Tuesday, Jan. 13

In Dakota County, Castle Rock and Eureka Townships there will be two supervisors seats on the ballot. Greenvale Township and Waterford Township will each have one supervisor position, and the town clerk position on the ballot.

At least one seat will be on the ballot in twelve of the 14 Rice county township boards. Those in Bridgewater and Forest Townships will vote on two of the board’s five supervisor seats. In Forest Township., one of the supervisor’s seats is a partial term set to expire in March 2027. The remaining townships will have one supervisor seat on the ballot. Elected clerks serve two-year terms; supervisors serve three-year terms.

Candidates for town board must:

  • Be eligible to vote in Minnesota
  • Not have filed for another office at the upcoming primary or general election
  • Be 21 years or more upon assuming office
  • Have maintained residence in their district for at least 30 days before the general election

In addition to completing an affidavit of candidacy, candidates must pay a $2 filing fee.

The last day a candidate may withdraw is Thursday, Jan. 15. Township elections will be held Tuesday, March 10.
