The Northfield Public Library, in partnership with Puente de Bridges, an organization that fosters relationships between immigrants and rural farming communities. is set to host a powerful exhibit of stories about resilience and migration over the next month. A statement issued by the City of Northfield said the library is proud to host the traveling exhibition Chicāhuac: Women’s Stories of Strength & Sacrifice from Rural Mexico to the Midwest from January 2 through February 4, 2026.
This bilingual exhibition shares the stories of women in rural Mexico who have led their households for years while loved ones work in the Midwest. The exhibition, according to the statement, highlights themes of strength, sacrifice, Indigenous history, and migration, offering a deeper understanding of the experiences that connect communities across borders.
Community members are invited to attend the opening reception on Thursday, January 15, from 5:30 to 6:30pm. Guests will enjoy light refreshments and learn more about the inspiration behind the exhibition and the women whose stories are featured. All are welcome.
Angelica Linder, the outreach services manager at the Northfield Public Library was quoted in the statement saying, “Events like this create space to honor the experiences of women whose resilience and dedication strengthen families and communities across borders.”
