Northfield City Hall is showcasing the work of local photographer Aramis Wells in a new exhibit that invites viewers to rediscover the beauty of the natural world. The community is encouraged to attend a reception honoring Wells this coming Tuesday, Tuesday, January 20 at 5:00pm. Light refreshments will be served and remarks from the artist and other dignitaries will begin at 5:30pm.
Wells, who was born and raised in Northfield, is a local engineer and longtime member of the Northfield Area Fire and Rescue Service. His collection, which will be on display through the spring, captures the wonder of Minnesota’s landscapes and night skies. His photographs feature striking scenes such as the Waterford Bridge glowing beneath the Northern Lights and Valley Grove Church framed by shimmering stars. Each image reflects Wells’ deep connection to Northfield, where he has lived his entire life. Beyond landscapes, his lens has documented local institutions, including the Defeat of Jesse James Days Bank Raid Reenactment and the Northfield Fire Department.
“This series is an invitation to pause and reflect on the magic woven into our everyday world,” he said in a statement issued by the City of Northfield. “We are so fortunate in Minnesota to have incredible natural areas and dark sky zones. I hope these pictures remind you to take a moment and appreciate the beauty around us.”
Wells has been practicing photography for most of his life. What began with a simple Kodak 110 Instamatic camera as a 3rd grader, has blossomed into the kind of talent and skill that only surfaces through passion and dedication. Over time, he has traveled across the country chasing the Milky Way, Northern Lights, and three solar eclipses. His work has been featured at the Paradise Center for the Arts in Faribault and will appear later this year at Split Rock Lighthouse and Tettegouche State Park, where he will be Artist of the Month.
