
A Northfield girl was killed and another is being treated for serious injuries after a traffic accident on Monday afternoon in Greenvale Township.
According to a statement issued by the Dakota County Sheriff’s Department, Dakota County deputies responded at approximately 3:23pm to an injury crash involving a semi tractor trailer and a passenger vehicle at the intersection of 320th Street and Foliage Avenue in Greenvale Township. Preliminary information indicates the driver of a semi traveling westbound on 320th Street collided with a 2012 Lexus CT that attempted to turn east on 320th Street from Foliage Avenue.
The driver of the Lexus, 16-year-old Berlyn Berghuis of Northfield, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger, 16 year old Anabelle Martinez, was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries and is currently being treated. The driver of the semi was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation. The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigative agency and is assisted by the Minnesota State Patrol.
