KYMN receives Backing Small Business grant

By Tracy Fossum

KYMN Radio has been selected to receive a Backing Small Businesses Enhancement Grant from American Express and Main Street America. The independently owned station was chosen through a very competitive national process and recognizes small businesses that play an important role in their communities.

The grant will support KYMN’s plan to expand its podcast production studio, giving local businesses and creators access to professional tools without the steep learning curve or cost of building a studio themselves. Owner Rich Larson says the project strengthens KYMN’s long‑standing mission to elevate community voices.

“Since our first broadcast in 1968, KYMN has been committed to giving Northfield a place to be heard. The enhanced podcast studio is the logical next step in that mission. We know that producing a podcast on your own can be time‑consuming, expensive, and overwhelming. Our studio takes that burden off your plate. Local businesses and community members can create a professional podcast that reflects who they are. It’s an efficient, cost‑effective way to reach listeners, strengthen your voice, and share your expertise. We’re proud to offer a resource that helps our community grow.”

The Backing Small Businesses program helps entrepreneurs access resources to grow, innovate, and navigate everyday challenges. To learn more about the program, visit mainstreet.org.

Main Street America, which administers the initiative, leads a nationwide effort to strengthen downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts through preservation‑based economic development. With a network of more than 1,600 programs, the organization has helped generate more than $100 billion in reinvestment, 180,000 new businesses, and 1.4 million jobs since 1980.

Northfield is a Main Street America Accredited Member Community through Friends of Downtown Northfield, which works to support the city’s historic district and local economy as a whole. To learn more about the studio and podcasting opportunities, please email contact@kymnradio.net.
