Annual Northfield All-School Art Show opens tomorrow at Northfield Arts Guild

Northfield’s annual All‑School Art Show, a decades‑long tradition that brings together student artists from across the community, has returned to the Northfield Arts Guild. The exhibition, which organizers believe began in the 1950s, features work from every level of the Northfield school system—public, private, and charter—spanning kindergarten through 12th grade.

For Guild Executive Director Michael Johnson, the show represents the heart of the organization’s mission. “It involves our entire community,” Johnson said. “Students get at least one chance between K and 12 to display their work, and that opportunity builds confidence and helps them see themselves as part of something larger.”

Each year, Northfield’s art teachers collaborate to curate and install the show, a process that brings the district’s educators together in a rare moment of shared celebration. “It’s one day where all of the art teachers get to be together,” said longtime high school teacher Katherine Norrie. “We’re so grateful to the Guild for giving us this bright, cheerful space for a full month.”

The exhibit showcases a wide range of mediums. At Bridgewater Elementary, art teacher Kate Woodstrup emphasizes exploration. “We use everything—paint, recyclables, anything we can find,” she said. “Elementary is about building fine motor skills and giving students experiences that shape their creative thinking.”

At Arcadia Charter School, teacher Noah Schomburg works with students from sixth grade through graduation. He highlights foundational skills alongside emerging interests, including digital art. “These students are incredibly savvy,” he said. “They’re creating conceptually amazing work in all kinds of media.”

Northfield High School offers an impressive 15 art electives. While honors students receive their own separate showcase later in the year, the All‑School Show highlights work from the full range of classes, from foundations to advanced ceramics, painting, and digital design.

For the educators, the show reflects deeper values. “Art helps students feel like they belong,” Norrie said. “Relationships drive everything we do. When students trust us, they’re willing to take creative risks.”

The All‑School Art Show opens to the public tomorrow at the Northfield Arts Guild. An open house will be held March 7 from 10am to 2pm The Guild is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5pm and Saturdays from 11am to 4pm.
