The Northfield School Board will convene tonight for its regular meeting with a full agenda that spans student initiatives, long‑term financial planning, major facilities projects, and preparations for a superintendent transition.
The meeting will begin with routine actions, including agenda approval and a period for public comment, before moving into announcements and recognitions. From there, the board will receive several key reports. The District Youth Council (DYC) is scheduled to present an update on its Student Pledge Against Gun Violence, an ongoing initiative aimed at fostering student‑led safety advocacy. Board members will also review the proposed 2026–2027 Debt Service Fund and Internal Service Fund budgets, along with a discussion regarding renewal of the district’s operating levy.
A substantial portion of the evening will be dedicated to action items. The board is expected to vote on a bid for the renovation of the Northfield Community Education Center’s Adult Basic Education (NCEC ABE) space. Also up for approval, with the announcement that Dr. Matt Hillmann will be stepping down as Superintendent at the end of this school year, is a contract with the Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) to conduct the district’s superintendent search. Additional votes will address the 2026–2027 Operating Capital and Long‑Term Facilities Maintenance budgets, as well as updates to the district’s 10‑year Long‑Term Facilities Maintenance and Indoor Air Quality Management plans. The Policy Committee will present recommended policy revisions for board consideration.
The meeting will also include an informational update on district construction projects.
Looking ahead, board members will review a series of upcoming sessions, including a March 19 public hearing on the operating levy renewal and an April 2 work session focused on later school start times. The meeting will close with a closed session on labor negotiation strategy before adjournment.
The School Board will always invite public comment from those who live in the Northfield School District. Public comments for the regular school board meetings may be made in person at the beginning of the meeting. Those wishing to speak must sign up in person prior to the beginning of the meeting. The boardroom opens at 5:30 p.m.
Tonight’s meeting will begin at 6:00
