With a 74-44 win over the Austin High School Packers Wednesday, the Northfield girls basketball team advanced to the Section 1AAA semifinals.
Starting out neck and neck in the first half, it took some time for the Raiders to find their rhythm. The Packers were the first to score.
The Raiders were organized and composed defensively but often did not capitalize on offensive opportunities. But once the Raiders caught their stride, the points flowed in. Ending the half at 43-23, Grace Mostad and Callie Lynch put up significant numbers on the board.
Lynch, a sophomore, was a force of nature out on the court. At 5 ‘4”, she was a standout in Wednesday’s game and is one of the Raider’s highest scorers this season.
In the second half, the Raiders shifted their momentum and succeeded in solidifying their win against Austin High School. Both offensive and defensively, Northfield gritted out rebounds and moved the ball with intention.
Northfield put up five fouls in the first half and seven in the second half. Meanwhile, the Packers put up five fouls in the first half and eight in the second.
Now advancing to the next stage of sectionals, the Raiders will take on No. 2-seeded Byron at 7p.m. Saturday, February 28.
