In competitions where victory is defined by hundredths of a second, every point matters – something Northfield High School’s Boys Swim and Dive Team knows well.
For the third year in a row, the Northfield Gators team took a top-three Class A spot in Minnesota State High School League Boys Swimming & Diving State Championships, held Feb. 26-28 at the University of Minnesota. Northfield placed third in Class A, earning 180 points.
Northfield coach Doug Davis said the team “showed focus, determination, and grit over the two days of competition.”
“They showed they know how to win and how to race” Davis said.
Over the course of the competition, the team earned two individual state championships, and seven members of the team were named All-State athletes.
Junior Odin Bergs won the 100 Freestyle and took third in the 50 freestyle. Will Redetzke, a senior, took first in the 200 Freestyle. The 400 free relay team of Bergs, Will Udelhofen, Jimmy Graham, and Will Redetzke placed third.
“It was such a privilege to watch them perform” Davis said.
Jimmy Graham, a junior, placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke The 200 free relay team of Odin Bergs, Will Udelhofen, Parker Malecha, and Will Redetzke placed fourth.
This team picked up points in every event possible, resulting in a top-three position for the Gators.
The competition wrapped up Northfield’s 2026 swim and dive season.
