Faribault names new snowplows

By Rich Larson

And, it took a little longer than expected for the City of Faribault’s newest snowplows to arrive — but they’re finally here. And now, they officially have names.

According to a statement issued by the Faribault Communications department,  the two newest snow-removal trucks will henceforth be known as Darth Blader and Ctrl Salt Delete.

The names come from a “Name a Snowplow” contest launched in late 2025. The contest was created to name two plows purchased as part of the City’s 2025 Capital Improvement Plan. Community members responded enthusiastically, submitting more than 50 creative suggestions.

City staff narrowed the list down to six finalists, then turned things over to the public for a vote.

When the votes were tallied, Ctrll Salt Delete cleared the competition with 84 votes — that’s 28 percent of the total. Darth Blader followed with 67 votes, or 22 percent. Altogether, more than 300 people cast ballots in the community poll.

Coming in third was Alexander Fariblow, with 48 votes. And while it didn’t crack the top two, staff decided the name was simply too good not to use. After some internal discussion, Alexander Fariblow will now appear on one of the City’s large downtown snow-removal units — specifically, the front-end blower.

City officials thanked everyone who submitted ideas and voted.
