Northfield City Council members will tackle a mix of development, transportation and community issues when they meet Tuesday evening at City Hall, with the most significant discussion likely centered on the next phase of the Harvest Hills development on the city’s northwest side.
Three separate agenda items relate to Harvest Hills Second Addition. Council members will be asked to approve the final plat for the project, a development agreement with the developer, and a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) assistance agreement. Taken together, the items represent the next major step in advancing the subdivision, while also addressing the public-private financial arrangements intended to support construction and infrastructure. Because the council will consider both the development agreement and TIF package on the same evening, residents can expect a detailed discussion about project costs, public benefits and the city’s role in supporting future housing growth.
Transportation issues will also receive considerable attention. Council members are scheduled to discuss proposed traffic and pedestrian safety improvements along Fillmore Street, Hayes Drive and Carter Drive, corridors that have generated safety concerns from residents. The council will also review a citywide local speed limit study, a conversation that could shape future speed limits and traffic-calming efforts throughout Northfield.
Before those discussions begin, the council will hear a mid-year presentation from Age Friendly Northfield. The organization, which works to make the community more welcoming and livable for older adults, is expected to provide an update on its initiatives, partnerships and progress toward goals established through its collaboration with FiftyNorth. The presentation will give council members a look at how Northfield is addressing issues such as accessibility, transportation, social engagement and aging in place.
Other agenda items include awarding the sale of $3.35 million in general obligation street reconstruction bonds and holding a public hearing related to vacating drainage and utility easements at 504 and 508 Ivanhoe Avenue as part of a property combination request.
The meeting begins at 6pm in the Council Chambers in City Hall, and will include an opportunity for public comment at the start of the session.
