Townies with Brian Doughty, 8-3-26

Brian Doughty: “Trading Places”

Brian is a veteran of Northfield’s stage and screens. He gives us a tour through time of Northfield buildings from the Grand and Lockwood Opera House to the Northfield Arts Guild building, Northfield’s original YMCA.

Brian shares memories from working at the Grand and Southgate Cinema when his dad owned them – plus the history of the Grand from vaudeville to movies to an event center. Brian talks about Northfield’s heyday of movie theaters (five!); seeing Star Wars 70 times; and how the same building can be a different landmark for different generations.

Plus: A shocking encounter with the curfew clock at the Grand.
