Memorial Pool closing for the season on Friday; Dog Swim set for next week

By Rich Larson

Northfield residents have just a few more days to take a swim at the Old Memorial Swimming Pool before the facility closes for the season on Friday, August 28.

The City of Northfield is encouraging community members to take advantage of the final days of the summer swimming season. Regular pool hours are noon to 6 p.m., although city officials said hours could be limited during the final week depending on staffing availability.

Pool and Ice Arena Supervisor Tom Spooner thanked residents who visited the pool throughout the summer and encouraged families to enjoy the facility before it closes.

“We’re grateful to everyone who came out to enjoy the pool this summer. We hope families can make the most of these final days and join us for the dog swim after the season ends,” Spooner said.

While August 28 will mark the end of swimming for people, the pool will reopen for a pair of evenings in September for one of its traditional end-of-summer events.

The annual after-season dog swim is scheduled for Wednesday, September 2, and Thursday, September 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. both evenings.

Admission is $5 for the first dog and $2.75 for each additional dog.

The fenced pool area will provide an off-leash environment for dogs during the event. Dogs must be well-socialized and up to date on all required vaccinations before participating. The pool’s kiddy pool will also be open during the event, providing a smaller swimming area for puppies and small dogs.

Owners are asked to follow the established dog swim rules to help keep the event safe and enjoyable for both the animals and the people attending.

Old Memorial Pool is located in Northfield’s Memorial Park. Additional information about the pool, including updated hours and details about the September dog swim, is available through the City of Northfield’s website.
