The Northfield Rotary Bike Tour is gearing up for another year of scenic rides, family fun, and community spirit as cyclists from across the region prepare to roll out on Sept. 12 during Defeat of Jesse James Days.
Now in its fourth year under the leadership of organizer Vicki Dilley, the event has grown into one of Rotary’s signature fundraisers, attracting everyone from serious endurance cyclists to local families looking for a memorable day outdoors.
“We have lots of options,” Dilley said.
Riders can choose from several routes, including gravel rides, road rides ranging from 20 miles to 100 miles, and a six-mile Family Fun Ride. The tour also welcomes adaptive cyclists, with support from Great Day Farm helping make adaptive equipment available for those with specialized needs.
The Family Fun Ride, coordinated by Jennifer Tonko, will begin at 10:45 a.m. and follows a scenic route along the bike paths connecting Northfield and Dundas. This year’s ride features a pirate theme, complete with treasure-hunting adventures for children along the route.
“It’s about getting families outside together,” Tonko said. “People can enjoy the parade, come ride with us, and then stay for the celebration afterward.”
The event is centered at the Dundas Dukes Ballpark, a location organizers say provides a safe and welcoming home base. Participants can enjoy burgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, and refreshments after their rides, with support from the Dundas Dukes, Chapel Brewing, Farmstead Bike Shop, and the City of Dundas.
Cyclists come from throughout Minnesota and neighboring states, with some riders traveling much farther to take part in the annual tour. Along the routes, volunteer support drivers and rest stops stocked with snacks and refreshments help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
Proceeds from the Bike Tour support Rotary projects locally and around the world, including youth programs, community grants, international clean water initiatives, and humanitarian efforts.
