Viking Age history will come alive over the next two weekends as Viking Fest Minnesota returns to the Dakota County Fairgrounds in Farmington.
The festival runs Oct. 10–11 and 17–18, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, featuring historical demonstrations, live entertainment, food, artisan vendors and activities for families.
Co-owner Theresa Von Eschen said the event brings together dedicated historical reenactors and visitors whose interest in Viking culture comes from television, costumes or Scandinavian heritage.
A historical encampment will feature participants wearing period-accurate clothing, preparing food and demonstrating blacksmithing and traditional crafts. Visitors can watch those skills in practice and learn about daily life during the Viking Age.
Von Eschen said an expanded museum is among the attractions she most anticipates. The collection will include original artifacts, including swords and spearheads, alongside replicas. Some items will be available for visitors to touch.
Musical entertainment includes the Harp Twins, while combat demonstrations offer another opportunity to explore the period.
Von Eschen emphasized that the celebration welcomes everyone, with historical interpretation intended to encourage curiosity and understanding.
Costumes are encouraged but optional. Tickets are available at the gate or online. Those purchasing tickets on the website at vikingfest.com can type in the code KYMN to receive $5 off of their ticket purchase. Additional information is available on the website as well.
