Preliminary data suggests that local voters have been flocking to the polls as Election Day rapidly approaches.
As of Wednesday afternoon, with five days of early voting remaining, 2,734 early and absentee votes had been counted at Northfield City Hall. That’s already 684 more votes than the total number cast there in the last non-presidential election in 2022, according to Northfield City Clerk Lynette Peterson. This number is likely to increase significantly over the coming days.
Voting is a “pretty quick and pretty simple” process, said Peterson. Any eligible voter in Rice County may vote at Northfield City Hall, which is open extended hours in the days immediately leading up to Election Day: Saturday, October 31 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Sunday, November 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Monday, November 2, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The city asks that all early voters arrive 15 minutes before closing in order to have time to complete any necessary paperwork prior to voting.
Voters who received an absentee ballot by mail may return it in person to ensure it is received before Election Day on November 3. Dakota County residents may return theirs to the Absentee Voting Office in Northfield City Hall. Rice County residents, however, must return theirs to the Rice County Government Services Building in Faribault.
