Shooting victim identified

A fatal shooting in Northfield early Sunday morning.  As reported yesterday, Northfield police were called at 7:49 on report of shots fired inside a home on the 1200 block of Jefferson Road. Initial information was that the shooting was related to an intruder. Northfield officers were assisted by the Rice and Dakota County Sheriff’s Offices.  The 911 caller remained on the line as officers arrived.  Dispatch tried to get her to come out of the home.  This is audio from MNpoliceclips.  Click on link to hear audio….

The shooting victim, a woman in her 60’s, was treated by officers and Northfield Hospital EMS, she was pronounced dead at the scene.  Police Chief Monte Nelson has identified her as 61 year old Lilly Marie Kirckof. Kirckof resided at the home where the incident took place.   The other woman, in her 70’s, who made the call, was taken into custody and questioned.  She was cooperative and has since been released.  The BCA worked into the night.  No other information has become available at this time.

No movement on K-Mart property in Dundas

Most of the commercial property along Hwy 3 in Dundas is part of TIF district 2 which allowed for the infrastructure of the K-Mart store.  Things like water, sewer and road improvements. City Administrator John McCarthy said the facility never got any money from it.  He added, “the type of construction that occurred in K-Mart would not be permitted under TIF anymore.  What would be permitted in the K-Mart store very likely is that TIF could be used to do what’s called a rehabilitation”.  That may mean tearing down the store.  McCarthy said those TIF dollars cannot be used for retail any more unless it’s an economic development district.  He said, as far as he knows, there’s been no movement on that area.
