Reina del Cid on AWD, 10/17/19

Nothing better on a gorgeous autumn afternoon than kicking off All-Wheel Drive with an in-studio conversation and performance by national recording artists, Reina del Cid! I was joined by Reina del Cid (singer/songwriter) and bandmate Toni Lindgren (guitarist & instrumentalist extraordinaire), who just released their fourth full-length album, Morse Code. Reina del Cid is also the headlining band on all six stops (!) of this year’s 2019 Caravan du Nord, the traveling showcase of the best in Minnesota music, sponsored by the Minnesota Music Coalition. So far the Caravan has made stops in Austin and Faribault; tomorrow night they perform in Red Wing and then on to Moorhead (Oct. 25) and Mankato (Nov. 1). Then the band (including bassist Andrew Foreman and drummer Nate Babbs) kicks into national tour mode once again, hitting the east coast!

It certainly was a treat to have these very talented and very busy musicians join me today. We talked about the Caravan du Nord (which in addition to performances includes workshops and networking events for musicians at all stages of their career) and in particular their not-to-be-missed performance Oct. 18 at the very beautiful Sheldon Theater in Red Wing, along with openers Faith Boblett and The Morning Kings. We also talked about the importance of taking that “leap of faith” when committing oneself fully to pursuing a career as a musician, and the challenges and successes that then follow when you’re a full-time working and touring musician! We also talked about their creative process and what’s next for the band.

Reina and Toni performed a lovely acoustic version of three of their songs:

Bernadette (from Morse Code)
Hold Me Before I’m Gone Forever (from Morse Code)
Woolf (from Rerun City)

I love this band and these two amazingly talented women! Be sure to get your hands on Morse Code — yet another fantastic release from this internationally acclaimed band!
