He’s a musical legend in the making, and just happens to hail from Northfield!
Such a treat to welcome back to the studio Mark Joseph (aka Mark Grundhoefer), who recently released a fantastic new solo album, The Musician and The Muse. Mark and his band (along with other special guests) will also be celebrating the album (along with his buddy Ben’s birthday) this Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Northfield VFW. (I appreciated Mark mentioning how much we all miss the former Rueb, adding that the VFW is the next best option for this ‘old school’ hometown bash — it’s going to be a blast!)
Where do I start? According to Mark’s website, he’s “…modern-day proof of what genuine creative talent, exceedingly hard work, and decades of dedication to one’s craft can bring to the world.” I wholeheartedly agree. Mark is one of the most passionate and committed music-makers (and music-supporters) that I know. And that passion and persistence has paid off ten-fold in The Musician and The Muse. With an authentic bluesy vibe, tons of soul, killer guitar playing and vocals from Mark, and a palpable energy that prevails on every track. Get your hands on this album! It’s fantastic. Mark is the real deal, dammit, and most certainly has the talent to deserve world-wide acclaim.
We chatted about his passion for the blues (heck, he’s passionate about all kinds of music) and guitar playing and he shared a really sweet story about seeing BB King and other musical legends at age 12, hence changing his life’s course forever. We also talked about the making of the record and its inspiration, as well as what’s on the horizon for Mark (who not only recently opened for Marc Broussard in Minneapolis but will soon share a bill along with Nicholas David and Samantha Fish. WOW!). Did I mention this guy is a musical legend in the making?!?
Mark performed three songs from The Musician and The Muse:
Fleetwood Brougham
Nobody Knows You When You’re Down & Out
Bound To Be Blessed
