Today in the ArtZany Radio studio Paula Granquist welcomes author and teacher Mary Bleckwehl to discuss her new novel Fetching Dreams – an engaging and touching tale of two girls from two continents and different cultures that come together to form a common purpose and to make a difference.
Fetching Dreams: Two girls living a continent apart become pen pals. Quiet and shy, Neyah lives in a rural African village and longs for more time in school, but spends most days fetching filthy water for her family to survive. Bold and boisterous, Abby lives comfortably in a modern city and spends much of her time planning her social calendar. Despite their differences, an unlikely friendship forms, and they discover they have one thing very much in common. Their lives are tragically threatened by something they can’t control. Or maybe they can.
Mary Bleckwehl is also the author of four picture books Henry, You’re Late Again and Henry, You’re Hungry Again, Claire’s Hair: A Tale of Hair, Heart, and Humor, Arrgh! Me Hate to Wait! and the non-fiction books Birthday Cookbook and the Awesome Disgusting Career Series. Using years of teaching experiences and stories from children, Mary has created touching tales that will resonate with every child from 3 to 93. Together with her husband, Mary has raised a daughter and two sons and now has two grandchildren, and she lives in Northfield, Minnesota. She has been a teacher, an advocate of different abilities, and juggles her love of writing with life’s many joys.
