The Northfield City Council meets tonight; the meeting will start with an information presentation from 50 North about the organization. Part of the presentation will focus on 50 North’s use of the Community Resource Center building owned by the City. The City has been debating the future of what to charge for the building because of several significant maintenance items needed in the near future. 50 North serves 2,127 members.

The regular agenda has only two items. First is accepting the feasibility report for the Spring Creek Road reconstruction and the Mill Towns State Trail Improvement. The project includes converting the gravel portion of Spring Creek Road from Woodley Street to Huron Court into a paved section of road. Additionally, there will be water main and storm sewer improvements, and a new sidewalk will be installed as well, which will serve as a segment of the Mill Towns Trail. The total estimated cost of the project is $2.4 million. Final approval of the project will happen later this year; construction is expected in the summer of 2026.

The last item on the agenda is a discussion about the council’s rules. This has been part of a large discussion that started with the first meeting in January about the best way to include public feedback. In January, the council overall agreed that there were issues with the way the council currently hears public input. Here’s City Administrator Ben Martig on KYMN in early January:

“I think it’s all just kind of trying to accommodate what people are looking for and then how can we do that, but all of the Council were. Engaged in interested to try and make it a good experience for everybody. And so I think this will probably be a little continued discussion.”  – Northfield City Administrator Ben Martig on the KYMN Morning Show
