Although we are now fully into summer break from schools, the Northfield District’s facilities and grounds staff are remaining busy. Building and Grounds Director Justin Raabolie noted that work has been done removing furniture from each classroom, to clean the floors and rooms. However, he said that the work doesn’t just stop inside the building:

“Annually, during the summer, there are 100 acres of mowing that happen once a week, and then an additional 30 acres of it get mowed twice a week.” – Justin Raabolie, Northfield Public Schools Buildings & Grounds Director on KYMN In The Morning 5q
Raabolie noted that beyond regular maintenance and cleaning, the district is undertaking a “monumental” task:
“There’s a district-wide LED retrofit that our staff electrician is doing with two apprentices this summer, which is was a monumental undertaking. And it’s been something that’s been in the works for several years. But we’ve we landed at a pretty good spot with some Excel rebates and some incentives.” — Justin Raabolie, Northfield Public Schools Buildings & Grounds Director on KYMN In The Morning
With the upgrades in lighting and rebates, Raablolie noted that the savings will pay for themselves and the project in 9 months, citing the energy savings and less maintenance work for staff.
We will be talking about other maintenance projects in the Northfield Schools in a later newscast.
