Carla Johnson has been named FiftyNorth’s Interim Executive Director. Johnson started in that role on July 1st. Kerry Hjelmgren, the previous Director, had to step down from the role to help with caregiving in her family. Johnson has been an active participant and class instructor with FiftyNorth for several years now. Previously, she was the Executive Director of the Community Action Center when the Community Resource Center was built. She shared why FiftyNorth was such an important place to her and to the community:
“All the things that Fifty North offers are just right in my life. Just, you know, socialization. not being isolated, keeping physically healthy and mentally healthy, and all those good things that the programs at Fifty North offer, so it felt like a great opportunity to step in.” – Carla Johnson, Interim Executive Director of FiftyNorth on KYMN in the Morning
However, she did state that she was not interested in seeking the full-time job, preferring just the interim role:
“And no, I am not applying for the permanent job. I would like to go back to being retired and to my life that I had before but it’s quite a privilege to be there at this time.” – Carla Johnson, Interim Executive Director of FiftyNorth on KYMN in the Morning
Johnson said that going forward, FiftyNorth’s Board of Directors will be searching for a candidate for the role, and that it is expected to be completed in six months.
