Welcome back to this week’s edition of the Raider Sports Highlight, where we take a look at one of the teams or players and what they are up to this season.

The first frost was this week, which may have some of us already thinking about winter; that said, the Raider Boys Hockey Team has already been thinking about the winter season for several weeks. Head Coach of the team, Charlie Cloud, stated that the team had some opportunities to work together over the summer, and it was his first time working with the team as head coach, having previously been the assistant coach for many years. On Raider Wrap, Cloud stated that he does not want to implement large changes with the team, citing past successes.

Listen to the News:

“Again, we’ve had a lot of success where it’s, I don’t wanna come in and try to reinvent everything, the formula we’ve had under Mike and the last nine years has worked out pretty well, obviously there’s a level we continue to raise to.” – Charlie Cloud, Head Coach of the Raider Boys Hockey Team on KYMN’s Raider Wrap

Instead, Cloud said it was about steady improvements each year, noting that for the last three years, the team has made it to the State Tournament, and each year has slightly improved.

“I think if you look back at the last three years, three years ago we lost the first round in overtime. The next year, we won a game in the consolation round, and then last year, we lost our first game but were able to win the consolation. So we’ve kind of been able to stack up a little bit.” – Charlie Cloud, Head Coach of the Raider Boys Hockey Team on KYMN’s Raider Wrap

Cloud also noted that this is their last season in the current ice arena before moving down the road to the new location.

The first girls hockey game gets underway in early November, with the boys teams starting a few weeks after.
