The ever-popular Trivia Bee, hosted by the Friends and Foundation of the Northfield Public Library, returns this Friday night at The Grand Event Center, with several prizes, fun, and raising money to support the library. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the contest beginning at 7:00 p.m. Teams of up to four people compete across four themed rounds, with no eliminations. Bill North, the President of the foundation, stated that the event started back in 2006, and they quickly learned it was more fun with no eliminations:
“And that was another discovery we had, that it’s much more exciting if you allow for comebacks, because trivia allows for comebacks. You know nothing about this area and then the next round it’s like making preserves.” – Bill North, President of the Friends and Foundation of the Northfield Public Library on KYMN In The Morning
Listen to the News:
At half-time during the contest, anyone can participate in a heads-or-tails game, essentially true-or-false questions, with a prize for the winner.
North said that teams are made up of a group of friends, co-workers, family, or pretty much anyone else that you want to get together with.
“So if somebody’s feeling super… Kind of polymathic they can go it alone or with another polymath and be a team of the dynamic duo, right? But you can also have four experts and kind of divide up the world of knowledge into four different categories: your sports and music, your plants…” – Bill North, President of the Friends and Foundation of the Northfield Public Library on KYMN In The Morning
Early registration for the Trivia Bee ends tonight at midnight. The cost of early registration is $100. Register here. Teams are also able to register at the door for the cost of $120. Additionally, throughout the evening, there are additional fundraising opportunities, such as teams purchasing lifelines.
North shared that the Friends of the Library have helped raise funds for small and large projects at the library:
“We’re there to be a source of funding for new initiatives that might not fit in a budget cycle. So we allow the library some nimbleness. And also we’re there for the bigger projects like bookmobiles and library expansions, where we’ve been fortunate to be able to help out.” – Bill North, President of the Friends and Foundation of the Northfield Public Library on KYMN In The Morning
The goal of the foundation is to raise $2,500 at the Trivia Bee this year.
Register here for the Trivia Bee (Due by 11/6 at Midnight).
