Today is Veterans Day, the Federal Holiday that honors the services of the military members of our country. There were several appreciation events over the weekend, and the services continue today as well.
At 9am the Veterans Appreciation event begins at Bridgewater Elementary School; guests are asked to arrive by 8:50am. The VFW and American Legion will then hold their Honor/Salute at 11am at Memorial Park today. This afternoon, St. Dominic School will hold its program at 1pm, followed by the Middle School at 2:10pm. Spring Creek Elementary School will hold its lunch with students tomorrow at 11:30am. Finally, on Saturday, the Raider Girls Hockey team will hold a veterans’ appreciation event during their game at the Northfield Ice Arena.

The Minnesota Department of Veterans of Affairs is preparing for the Official State of Minnesota Veterans Day program today in Mankato. Commissioner Brad Lindsay says they will be recognizing the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II:
“We still have just below a couple thousand World War II veterans left in the state. So, taking the opportunity to honor them. Our keynote speaker is actually a professor from Minnesota State University-Mankato. National Guard leaders, members of Congress, state government officials, and the Consul General of Canada in Minneapolis are also speaking at the Veterans Day program.
